Located in the South West of England, Somerset is one of the prettiest counties in the country, and something definitely worth a visit. The county is relatively small and it’s not very densely populated, and that’s a breath of fresh air, considering that so many places in England are crowded, especially around the large cities of London, Manchester and Liverpool. However, not having a massive metropolitan area sort of means that public transport is slightly less effective, so you should probably go to a Somerset car hire company and get a cheap car to get you around the county.
The biggest cities in Somerset are Wells and Bath. Wells is an incredibly pretty town, one of the prettiest I’ve visited in my journeys around the British Isles. Wells is very well known for its Cathedral, built between 1175 and 1490. It’s an English Heritage site and has been described as the most poetic and romantic of English cathedrals.
The other major town, Bath, is also quite stunning. Bath has been an important town since the Roman times, and you can still visit the Roman baths in town. But the most stunning piece of architecture in the city is the Royal Crescent, a set of buildings designed in crescent shape.
